Production Log week 5

The key aims for this week were to have complete:

- Interview Mankamal Singh
- Interview Piara Singh

What I accomplished:

I accomplished one of the aims of the week, I interview Mankamal Singh about what the word Sikh means and I asked him if he thinks Sikhs cope well with being a Sikh in the 21st century.

Issues/challenges I faced during production:

Some of the issues I had this week were that I could not edit by work as it was half term and I had to change the date on the interview with Piara Singh as he was too busy to be interviewed on the set date.

Production Log week 4

The key aims for this week were to have complete:

- Interview Miss Crosbie
- Editing Miss Crosbies interview
- Look for music
- Look for archive footage

What I accomplished:

I accomplished most of the aims of the week, I interviewed Miss Crosbie and I asked her about what she teaches the students about Sikhism and if she thinks that Sikhs in the 21st century cope well with being a Sikh in the 21st century. Then I edited the interview down to what I needed. I found images of people doing the Sikh Martial Arts.

Issues/challenges I faced during production:

Some of the issues I had this week were that I couldn't find music that would be appropriate for the documentary but I could not find none and the interview i did with Miss Crosbie was quite long and I had to decide what I wanted to use out of all of it.

Production Log week 3

The key aims for this week were to have complete:

- Shooting Script.
- Final Contact Lists.
- Get all of the emails to and from contributors together and put on the blog.
- Vox-Pop and interview Questions which i am going to ask when i go film.
- All call sheets for when and where i am going to film.
- All risk assessments for each different place i am going to film at.

What I accomplished:

I accomplished all of the aims of the week and i know what I am going to be doing for the filming, I know what questions I am going to ask the interviewees and in the vox pops and I have all of my interviewees and contributors confirmed. I got all of my responses from the contributors so I could confirm when I wanted to interview then.

Issues/challenges I faced during production:

Some of the issues and challenges I faced were trying to come up with 5 questions for each interviewee and I found it hard I was going to ask some of the people similar questions with a few different questions. I also found that most of my Risk assessment forms had similar hazards on them.

Drama centre visit

http://www.redbridgedramacentre.co.uk/

We visited the Redbridge drama centre

The aims of the day were learn how to make sure the film flows properly, how to frame shots correctly, how to use a wild track over the film.

First we had to film a silent film showing two people play cards and we were meant to show who had the winning person all without sound and using a variety of shots, and then the second clip which we had to film was using a wild track over it and the last clip we filmed was out on the street doing an introduction and vox pops and cut aways, all of these short clips had to have continuity in them.

What I found the most challenging was on this visit was the continuity from one shot to another as in between shots people kept moving and then going back to that same position was a bit difficult to be in the same position and another challenge was approaching people in the street and getting them to be in our film as most didn’t want to be filmed.

I felt the most confident with filming the shots as I have used a camera before and I knew how to frame most of the shots and another thing which I felt confident with was the editing as I had done it before.

During our visit to the Redbridge drama centre I learnt how to film a clip with continuity and if it doesn’t have continuity properly then I can always use a cut away where possible to cover it up and make it flow better. I also learnt how to use a wild track and how to put it over the clip, how to approach people for a vox pops and what other different types of shot I could use for whilst filming and i can use all of what i have learnt in my documentary

Production Log week 2

The key aims for this week were to:

- finish writing the shooting script for my documentary

- learn how to film a documentary properly

What I accomplished:

What I accomplished in this week was I finished my shooting script for my documentary, so I know who what I am going to need to film and where
and who is going to be in which shot and I have colour coordinated them according to the locations so it is easier for me when it comes to filming and I can film all the shots needed all in one go. I also learnt how to make a documentary flow better.

Issues/challenges I faced during production:

Some of the problems I came across during this week were I didn't know what order I should put things in my documentary for my shooting script and I over came this by thinking over it and putting extra shots, if I don't need them later I can just take them out.
